Lifelong Creemore resident Tom Montgomery received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal at a family gathering on Christmas Day.
The medal, commissioned in honour of the Queen’s sixtieth anniversary on the throne, was awarded through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to Montgomery for his service to local organizations. The medal was presented by Montgomery’s grandson Scott Anderson, a Councillor of the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio.
Montgomery belongs to the Masonic Nitetis Lodge, where he has served as secretary for 33 years. He is a life-member of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Manito Shrine Club in Collingwood. He has collected and delivered food to the Angus Food Bank for over 20 years.
His community involvement also extended to 48 years as the custodian of St. John’s United Church, 24 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Creemore Fire Department, and eight years as an Emergency Management Ontario auxiliary constable.
