Happy springtime to all! We are starting to see those bulbs pushing up to flowers and the buds on the trees ready to burst into life. At our house this past week we had a not-so-nice taste of spring involving our sump pump. However, it was a wonderful feeling to have friends help in a time of need. Thanks to the sump pump friends who assisted us through a wet afternoon! We also had tremendous assistance from our young neighbour who helped us with water buckets.

The New Lowell United Church welcomes you to a night of music. The Clearview Community Theatre players will perform “We Haz Jazz” on Saturday, May 3 at 7 pm. Phone 705-424-1034 for your tickets ($15). This is a building fundraiser as we prepare our church for making it accessible for all.

I hear the Brentwood Horticultural is getting their annual Plant Sale ready for Saturday, May 17 starting at 8 am, rain or shine. Come and ask questions of the experts and get something new for the garden.

Save the date: on Saturday, May 31 there will be a metal waste drop off at New Lowell Central Public School. After that, come over to the United church for a Garden Tea ($6) and Bake Sale.
Soon, our own Country Market will be up and running on Wednesday evenings starting at 6 pm at the Recreation Park in New Lowell. Contact Heidi (heidi.sterrenburg@gmail.com) for information about renting space for your goodies.

Did you hear the camping songs coming from the New Lowell United Church on Sunday? The Friends of Camp Simpresca put together a fine service of celebration of the camp.

Camp Simpresca is a Christian camp for children of all ages and they have short programs along with weekly programmes. The Creemore Pastoral United Church Charge has sent many local children to camp and we have seen many of our youth be trained as counsellors.

There were lots of smiles as the Avening United Church gave Camp Simpresca a wonderful donation toward building a new double cabin, but this donation comes with heavy but happy hearts. The Avening United Church will be closing its doors in June and are handing over their special church artifacts and donations to other church endeavours, Camp Simpresca being one of them.

Remember, if you wish to have a game of euchre, join the seniors at the New Lowell Legion on Wednesday starting at 1 pm.

Ladies of the community are invited to a Thirty-One party at the New Lowell church on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 pm in support of the Accessibility Building Fund. This is an evening of showing some special, durable bags for all kinds of uses for the busy mom to the crafty person – they have something for everyone! Kate Steer will be our host. If you can call Sandra at 705-424-6497, it would help to know the numbers coming.
