Organizers of the Creemore Big Heart Street Hockey Tournament are looking for people willing to wield a hockey stick and take on a tennis ball.
During Creemore Big Heart Days, the BIA is mounting the street hockey tournament on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Organizers are looking for mixed teams – each team must have at least one woman in play at all times – for a knock-out format tournament beginning at noon. Each team will have three players and one goalie on the ‘rink’ at a time during two 10-minute periods. Substitutions are allowed.
“This is for fun, to get out and get some fresh air and do a little bit for charity,” said BIA executive committee member Jim Pearse. “There won’t be any NHL scouts in the audience.”
There will be a final later in the afternoon, with the whole tournament wrapping up around 4 p.m.
There is a $10 entry fee per team with half of the money doled out for prizes and the other half donated to the charity of the winning team’s choice.
The action will take place on Elizabeth Street, between Creemore Springs Brewery and the Old Mill House Pub. Mill Street will be closed during the day on Feb. 14 for Creemore Big Heart Days activities. The event continues in the evening outside Creemore Kitchen. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. people are invited to enjoy live music and a beer around a fire.
Throughout the weekend, many Creemore businesses will be decorated in red and will have special offerings, all in celebration of the village with the big heart.
