The Ode to Singhampton Ramp Romp written by Florence Bremner in 1989 was sung for the first time at the 31st annual Ramp Romp at the Singhampton Community Centre on May 9. (Sung to the tune of Clementine.) The event is now a fundraiser for the hall.
In the village of Singhampton,
There’s a ritual every spring.
When the folks all get together,
For the wild leek gathering.
Chorus: Oh the Ramp Romp, to the Ramp Romp,
Raise your voices now and sing.
Everyone come to the Ramp Romp,
Join us for our springtime fling.
Scrumptious food and on the menu,
Ramps or wild leeks… the same thing.
Then our shindig will continue,
With a dance and partying.
If you’re wondering what the purpose,
Of this wild leek fundraising?
There’s a group most dedicated,
Fire protection here to bring.
