Kellie Leitch has been the topic of some consternation. First, Mr. Byford aptly compared her totalitarian tactics, with the warning of a slippery slope.

Next, Mr. Fleming rejected this allusion, yet rightly expressed his concern about the violation of human rights in Canada.

Kellie Leitch, staged a formidable performance for the screens of the nation when she presented her Orwellian “Big Brother” plan: a snitch line. She embarrassed herself and as our representative she shamed all of us in Simcoe-Grey. We already have a snitch line. It’s called 911.

Did Kellie Leitch forget that we have a plan called the Criminal Code of Canada?

No! Her mean spirited and divisive tactic targeted one group of Canadians. After all, Mr. Harper clearly explained, unlike him, “they” are not “old stock” Canadians.

The truth is that “old stock” Canadians commit unspeakable crimes, too, in Canada.

Ironically, Kellie Leitch, while Minister of the Status of Women refused to launch a national inquiry for missing and murdered Indigenous women because, as she explained, criminal behaviour will be investigated by the police and the RCMP.

Moreover, she condoned the brokerage of a $15-billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia, a misogynist regime with a frightening record for treatment of women.

Several of those Conservatives who remain have disclosed how appalled they were with this blatantly racist plan. New interim leader, Rona Ambrose, told CTV that she wants to leave the “nastiness” behind.

In this country, parents who criminally endanger the health and welfare of their children should go to prison. Parents who mutilate their children should go to prison. Terrorists who are Canadian should go to prison. Misogynist men who abuse and murder their intimate partner should go to prison.

We have all heard the grim reports. Children turn up in suitcases, are starved and beaten in their homes. Women are found dead in fields and in cars.

Anyone can call the police should they suspect brutality in their neighbourhood, at work or at school.

Fortunately, we can breathe again. Our Canada is restored. Canadian neighbours will offer support and refuge and call for police intervention as needed. Sunny days are ahead.

Creemore.
