Kirk Shearer died in his home in Collingwood with his son Adam and daughter-in-law Jessica at his side.
Youngest son of Rosamund and William Shearer, stepson of Marie Flanagan Shearer, brother of Jeffrey Shearer and Virginia Toms, and father of Adam (Jessica) Shearer.
The family also wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to Deanna Kenwell who was Kirk’s primary caregiver towards the end of his life.
Kirk was born in Toronto and worked there, but he adored the country and had a farm in Creemore for 30 years before moving to Collingwood. As head of Tourism Toronto he was, and continued to be, a passionate advocate for his city. He loved music and, in his earlier years, was a drummer for Ronnie Hawkins and Robbie Lane and The Disciples. His years in the media business were some of his most cherished, primarily as a founding partner in Procom. His favourite post was Publisher of Canadian Living magazine.
Kirk was incredibly proud of his son Adam and they shared a special relationship. He loved his nieces and nephews, making them an important part of his life. He had friends from every walk of life and was a warm and caring man. Kirk also had a flare for real estate and it was said that the only thing he could not pass up was an Open House!
A Celebration of Kirk’s Life will take place at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre in Toronto on Sunday, Feb. 7, with a memorial service from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and a reception following.
Donations can be made to the Renascent Foundation.
