The Cybergnomes Robotics FRC Team 2013 is going to worlds and the team has launched a Go Fund Me campaign.

A team, based in Clearview Township and made up of 15 students schools in Simcoe County, has just returned from the Western Canada Regional in Calgary where it placed second after qualifications, going on to win the regional competition with its alliance partners, and was awarded the Excellence in Engineering Award.

The Calgary win earned them a trip to the 2016 FIRST Championship in St. Louis, April 27-30.

FIRST Robotics is an organization that encourages STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) in students across the world. FRC stands for First Robotics Challenge.

“Our team is funded entirely by donations from individuals and local businesses as well as the students, their parents and our mentors. Building a robot is expensive.  Competition registration fees are enormous.  Travel accommodation and fuel is also a huge expense for this small group in rural Ontario,” said officials. “We are looking for donations to help off set the costs above so that all of our Team members will be able to participate in the World Championship.”

The cost to attend is $15,000. The students have raised or committed to pay nearly half and are looking to friends, family and the community to help raise the rest. The Go Fund Me campaign is at www.gofundme.com/wnxyge6k. Donate through Paypal at cybergnomes.ca.
