As a long-time resident of the South Georgian Bay and Clearview communities and, as a member of the group petitioning the Government of Ontario Environment and Land Tribunal to stop 475-foot high turbines near our two local airports’ air space, I was surprised and pleased to receive this comment to our online petition. You can reach by Googling Change.org Fund and Fight the Collingwood Airport Turbines.

We have more than 1,000 signatures, however we are always looking for more people to sign.

The signature on the petition is from George Herraghty, a resident of Elgin, in the United Kingdom of Scotland.

This is what he had to say:

“Over 5,000,000 trees felled to make room, hundreds of miles of bulldozed tracks. Our finest landscapes trashed by multinationals. Giant pylons scarring our beautiful countryside.”

“Drumocher Pass completely vandalized. Thousands of tons of concrete dumped on our fragile upland ecosystem. Millions of birds and bats needlessly slaughtered. Wind farms visible from 60 per cent of Scotland. Tourists deterred by industrialized landscapes. The highest energy bills in Europe. Countless millions extorted from the poorest bill payers. Multinationals and landowners trousering millions.”

“During our coldest nights so far, when we needed power most, despite all this, wind’s contribution to the national grid to the nearest round figure was 0.15 per cent.”

Will this be Collingwood and Creemore’s future?

Clearview Township.
