Jennifer Eccles is currently showing an eclectic mix of photos taken during her travels over the past year.
The show entitled Memories of a Gypsy, in reference to Eccles’ wanderlust, features 20 photos from as far away as Africa, Cuba, Mexico, England and closer to home in Ontario.
“It’s a spectrum of places that I have been, moments along the way that I have captured and want to share with people,” said Eccles.
She said although she has taken photos for many years, this is her first show. The photos are a collection of landscapes and streetscapes, with an emphasis on colour. All of the countries also have a lot of history and old buildings, some of which are crumbling and some are lovingly maintained.
Through her lens, Eccles strives to show everyday scenes from a different perspective.
“I want people to be able to look at the pictures and travel through my eyes, to experience a place that they may never get to go see, through their imagination by looking at the photo,” she said.
Eccles said seeing a different way of life and learning about other cultures sometimes makes her appreciate her life back home and sometimes helps deepen her perspective.
Memories of a Gypsy will be on sale in the gallery at Curiosity House Books until August 7.
