Traditional rug hooker Sheila Klugescheid is celebrating the opening of her new studio, gallery and store, Heartland Creations, with a week of events and activities.

Klugescheid, in partnership with her husband Udo Klugescheid, has renovated a barn at their Brentwood property, converting into a store that carries supplies for rug hooking, knitting, quilting and other locally made products.

Klugescheid makes hand dyed wool fabric, yarn and fleece. She is also a quilter and designs her own patterns. She sells patterns and kits at the store.

Originally from Stayner, Klugescheid is an Ontario Hooking Craft Guild certified rug-hooking teacher.

The grand opening is Saturday, August 13 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The studio will be open throughout the week from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a group fibre art exhibit will be on display.

A Wednesday hooking event is already full but there is a second one on Friday, August 19 (beginners welcome).

There will also be a yard sale on August 13 and 14 and again on August 20. Also on August 13, guest vendor Chris Poole will be on hand to sharpen rug cutting tools and scissors.

After opening week, the studio is open by appointment only.

For more information, contact Klugescheid at 705-423-9695.

The studio is located at 3241 12/13 Sideroad in Brentwood, on a two-acre mini farm.

People are welcome to stroll through the property and visit the lambs, Angora rabbit and goldfish.
