Mulmur Township Deputy Mayor Heather Hayes has resigned from her position due to family obligations.
Council regretfully accepted the resignation at its meeting on Sept. 7.
“It’s with a very heavy and sad heart that I’m letting you know I’m resigning from Mulmur council. I love my role and the time I’ve spent with you and all the staff in Mulmur,” in her letter of resignation. She goes on to say that family members need her support at this time. “This will take priority in my life and I will be short changing the residents of Mulmur as well as council and staff alike if I continue.”
Councillor Earl Hawkins has replaced Hayes.
“I am sure happy to have the position and I am going to do my best to protect the interests of Mulmur Township,” he said.
Hawkins has been a councillor in Mulmur on and off for almost 20 years and when the position opened, Hawkins said he, like all other council members, put his name forward.
“It ended up that I got it,” he said.
Hawkins said in addition to the issues that arise, responding to the Niagara Escarpment Plan expansion is a council priority right now.
Council is now accepting nominations for the vacant councillor position. Those interested in the position are invited to submit a letter of interest and resume by Sept. 27. To view the declaration of qualifications please see our website at www.mulmur.ca.
