Editor:

Put me in firm opposition to some of the things Kellie Leitch has said in the wake of the recent U.S. election. However, as an accident-of-birth dual citizen, I took a special interest in that election and, for the first time, actually felt a moral duty to cast a vote.

Based on that experience, I am dismayed to see the shape the opposition to Dr. Leitch is taking.

The fist shaking moral rage and overheated rhetoric is exactly the same behaviour that alienated rural voters in the United States, perhaps ultimately contributing to the unfortunate outcome. I think if we want to make a difference, the way forward is reasoned opposition to her policy ideas, not a furious mob.

The latter tends only to entrench people in their positions, not to make change. And the former, surely, is what being Canadian is all about.

Bruce Philp,

Creemore.
