The New Tecumseth Singers and the Dufferin Concert Singers are teaming up once again to spread joy and songs of Christmas with the greater Creemore community. Many of the members have sung in Creemore during three past concerts, both Christmas and spring event to augment the Sound Investment Choir.

John Wervers, the director of The New Tecumseth Singers and the Dufferin Concert Singers and former director of the Sound Investment Choir, received an invitation to bring some cheer to Creemore.

Wervers is passionate about performing for and in small communities and has many fond memories of directing the last three concerts to a very enthusiastic and warm audience in Creemore. The New Tecumseth Singers and the Dufferin Concert Singers are known for their diverse programming from season to season as they present major works, short works, some accompanied by orchestra and others featuring local vocalists and instrumentalists.

Last December, the twin choirs performed to two sold out venues featuring Handel’s Messiah with the Waterloo Chamber Players Orchestra in both Orangeville and Alliston. In November, a number of the singers were off to New York for five days to perform Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall.

On Sunday, Dec. 18 they will perform We Need a Little Christmas at St. John’s United Church in Creemore, at 3:30 p.m.

The choirs are presenting a program of short works including seasonal favourites and some opportunities to hear and sing ageless carols. Young guest artists will once again share their talents; Katie Thurman, a soprano from the Alliston area who is presently studying music at York University, will perform as well as Sean Derraugh on clarinet. Accompanists include Louise Gallagher and Tanya Fenton. Wervers and the choirs know the importance of encouraging young talent to share the joy of performance.

Tickets for the Creemore show cost $20. Children under 16 are admitted free. Tickets are available at Curiosity House Books and by phoning Marilyn Steed at 705-466-3017 or Marilyn Chenier at 705-466-6864.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Door Youth Centre in Alliston and Orangeville.
