Mulmur residents may see a decrease in their tax bill after council passed the township’s $4.7 million budget on Feb. 6.
There is a decrease of $7.60 on the way for every $100,000 of assessment so for the average residential property (assessed at $371,868) there would be a decrease of $28.25.
The tax levy increase is 2.8 per cent but the tax rate is going down 1.7 per cent, factoring in inflation and growth.
Treasurer Heather Boston said in the past, Mulmur has had big tax increases with the goal of getting to this tax levy so that the tax rate is stable, or decreasing every year, barring any unforeseen expenses.
There is $897,433 going into reserves for administration building, public works, bridges and culverts, roads, recreational equipment, and aggregate rehab, which cover all capital costs.
Mulmur 2019 capital projects totalling $1.5 million:
• Road surfacing: $444,000;
• Snowplough replacement: $260,000;
• Sweeper replacement: $10,000;
