Editor:
I was astonished and dismayed to read Donna Baylis’ letter to the editor, expressing her “disappointment” to the decision of Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit that, starting this week, wearing a mask in public places is required. And further, her comment that this decision is akin to hysteria.
I am also at a loss to know what wearing a mask in public places has to do with “job losses, restrictions or reduced service levels,” as the author suggests.
Surely the directives of our exceptional national health experts and of Dr. Gardner are more valid that those of the several unnamed doctors touting their “looney tunes” ideas.
If you want to talk about COVID hysteria, you need look no further than the political rallies south of the border, where ignorant or arrogant masses have refused to wear masks and relate this to the resulting disastrous spread of the virus in these areas.
Thankfully the majority of citizens feel the Health Unit’s directive is prudent. It is to be hoped that Ms. Baylis will see beyond her own hysteria and follow the advice of our local and national experts.
MJ McGonagall,
Mulmur.
