Editor:
I wish to express my disagreement with allowing ATVs access to our municipal roads and trails.
Our previous home was on the Sunnidale 6/7 Sideroad. We lived across the road from the Ganaraska Trail and a large tract of Simcoe County forest. We and our neighbours enjoyed walking in that forest with our dogs on a daily basis.
However, after Simcoe County forests allowed the ATVs to have access we no longer enjoyed the forests on a daily basis. Never on weekends. The trucks and trailers were lined up along the side of the road, as one machine after another was off loaded. The road was degraded at all entry points into the forest, and had to be repaired several times by the township. The paths were chewed up and stripped of greenery. Most of the ATVs were owned by people who belonged to ATV clubs. According to their bumper stickers, they came from quite some distance. They were very noisy, from first thing in the morning, until long after sunset. At the end of their day, they packed up and returned to their homes, leaving their beer bottles and garbage behind. We had many neighbourhood clean-ups to collect and remove their waste.
They may have bought gas in Angus, but they certainly did not come here to shop and add to the economy.
We are experiencing a climate crisis. We should be doing everything we can to protect and repair our environment, our precious green spaces, and our peaceful lifestyle in Clearview. Please consider these points when making your decisions.
