Heat waves. Flooding. Snow storms. Drought.  People are drawn to extreme events. Still more wonder how climate change will impact them. Many still believe that it isn’t real. Now residents of Dufferin County will have a direct line to climate change and how changes directly impact them in the new digital exhibition “Before Your Eyes – A Changing Clime in Dufferin County”
The Museum of Dufferin has partnered with Climate Action in Dufferin to create a digital exhibition to explore one of today’s hottest topics: climate change. Drawing on the latest science, you will discover what climate change means for us here in Dufferin County, from the local impacts to the community solutions that can help us reduce our emissions and adapt to changing climate conditions.
Sara Wicks, Climate Change Coordinator, Dufferin County “The solution to climate change is community. With meaningful action from local municipalities, businesses, organizations, schools, and individuals we can create a prosperous future for the current and future generations of Dufferin County.”
Laura Camilleri, Archivist at the Museum of Dufferin “Things are heating up in Dufferin County. By 2050, events like heat waves, flooding, ice-storms, and droughts may be the ‘new normal’.  But how can we stop or reverse it? It’s like a symphony – with everyone playing their part to make a solid impact on climate change.  This exhibit can help you select your part in reducing the impact of climate change.”
The multimedia exhibit includes engaging videos, interactive climate maps, and a “check your knowledge” section. It’s designed to assist any educator with their unit on climate change and help make it relevant to their students.
Kylie-Anne Grube, Climate Change Research & Engagement Assistant – “Climate change is an issue that is really hard for us as humans to grasp because of its enormous scale across geography and time. The goal of this exhibit is to make climate change local. We want visitors to leave with a sense of what climate change means for our daily lives in Dufferin County and how we can take action at the community level.”
This project gave communities an opportunity to share their stories, submit photographs and donate memorabilia from the community to the MoD archives. These stories tell us how these changes have affected everything from farmers to outdoor sports.  “We used to get on the ice more often and well past March Break, but this has changed substantially. At times, the rink houses a pool instead of ice, so it sits useless for days.” -The Day Family.
The Exhibit launched Oct. 27 on the Museum of Dufferin website https://www.dufferinmuseum.com/exhibits-art-shows/
