After a year’s hiatus, the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust’s See the Salmon Run event returns on Saturday, Sept. 25, offering a chance for people of all ages to see scores of massive Chinook Salmon fight their way up Silver Creek on their annual spawning run.
The centrepiece of the event is a 20-minute socially distanced, self-guided nature hike through the woods along Silver Creek with four stops. Conservation experts from Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority, Georgian Bay Forever, The Pollinators, and the Georgian Triangle Anglers’ Association will be on hand to share knowledge of fish migration and spawning, and stamp kids’ fish ‘passport’ colouring books. At the end of the walk, there is a sheltered table for colouring, aquatic-themed story time, and children’s edutainment.
Parking is available at the Foley property, 609830 Sideroad 12 The Blue Mountains, just west of the intersection of 6th Street and Osler Bluff Road.
Due to COVID protocols, tickets must be bought online via www.seethesalmon.ca for either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Gourmet food trucks and The Collingwood Brewery beer stand will have food and drink for purchase, while the Thornbury Bakery is providing free mini cupcakes for the children’s snack. There will also be complimentary water, juice, coffee and tea, as well as accessible washrooms. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or folding chairs for lunchtime, since socially distanced seating is limited.
Entry costs $10 for adults, $5 for children five and older, and younger children are admitted for free. More information and tickets are available via www.seethesalmon.ca.
