Clearview Township Fire Chief Roree Payment says the department’s ATV was invaluable in the rescue of a woman injured in a snowmobile accident on Feb. 4.
Just before 1:30 p.m., emergency services responded to the scene in the area of 15/16 Sideroad Nottawasaga in Clearview Township to find the driver of the snowmobile had left the trail and struck a tree.
The injured driver was rescued via Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail B111, east of Concession 10, on trail B111, an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail.
The 56-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries she sustained in the crash.
Payment tweeted, “Super fast deployment by crews of ATV and tremendous help as always from snowmobilers in the area.”
During Monday’s council meeting, Deputy Mayor Barry Burton expressed thanks to the rescue team.
“Once again, if any of you ever questioned the money we spent to buy that ATV,” he said. “They were able to go in with the ATV with the sled and pull the person out because the ambulance wasn’t able to get in there.” Burton said the husband of the injured woman had expressed his gratitude for the department’s professionalism. “Once again, Clearview Fire and Rescue, you do us proud,” said Burton.
