It’s the week before Easter and our little village needs our help.
I live beside the church on Caroline Street West in Creemore and have noticed quite a few large dog waste piles. Close to the number that has been recorded in The Echo from the Creemore Nature Preserve.
Dog waste doesn’t decompose. It adds harmful bacteria and nutrients to local waters, when it’s not disposed of properly. It goes into your green bin.
My neighbour has even attached a dispenser filled with poo bags to a hydro pole. It is ready for dog owners that have “forgotten” their bags.
Unfortunately some dog owners let their dogs go wherever they want and they walk on without taking their responsibility of pet ownership. If you see that dog owner that ignores what his dog has done just hand him a bag and say, “Oh, you forgot a bag, here is one for you.” Chances are they will remember to have a bag handy if enough people are on poo patrol.
I own a dog and my neighbour owns three. We pick up after our dogs and what people leave on our lawn and sidewalk. I am asking everyone to take a few bags and spring clean the residential streets of our village this week before Easter. Poo for sure butalso coffee cups, beer cans, and plastic water bottles, basically, all litter.
Let’s make walking around the village of Creemore pleasurable, not a mine field.
