Mad River Golf Club is getting set to welcome some of the top female amateur golfers in the country to the 2023 Canadian Women’s Mid-Am Championship presented by BDO. This is the first time the Mid-Am has operated as a standalone tournament and it is quite an honour for Mad River to have been chosen by Golf Canada as the venue.

Host Club Tournament Chair Susan Quigley says approximately 70 golfers are expected, representing seven provinces and a number of states. Defending champ Shelley Stouffer from BC will be here, along with Ontario and Canadian Golf Hall of Famer Mary Ann Hayward, and previous Mad River Club Champions Kristy Henry and Sharon De Lorenzi. Participants must have a handicap of 12 or lower to be eligible.

Practice rounds will be played on Monday, July 24 with tournament play on Tuesday and Wednesday and the final of the 54 hole event scheduled for Thursday, July 27.

Spectators are welcome and admission is free although Quigley says parking is limited so carpooling is recommended. Those watching from the area of the clubhouse will be able to see golfers teeing off on the first hole, coming down the fairway on number nine and finishing on the 18th hole. Another choice vantage point is the top of the seventh hole which allows a view of the sixth fairway, the short par three seventh hole and teeing off on number eight.

Quigley says the club is very grateful for the support of the Clearview community, and a grant from the county’s Tourism and Cultural Enhancement program to assist with marketing.

Susan Tremblay is the Hospitality External Activities Chair. Working closely with Amanda Murray of Clearview Township she has been compiling information to expose players to some of the many delights of the Southern Georgian Bay region. In an attempt to find something for everyone, attractions profiled run the gamut from spas to the Scenic Caves, Harbourfront tours and events such as Music, Market and Park it. The hope is that golfers and their families will arrive a few days early, stay after the tournament or perhaps plan a future visit. Tremblay says she is excited by the opportunity to showcase some of the many summer attractions that make this area so special.
