What can one expect from a Weird Séance? All we know is that guests can expect to meet Madame Sophie, who will be reading their vegetables.

That is all David Johnston, of Murders Tastefully Executed, is willing to divulge about the upcoming Murder at the Masquerade event at Station on the Green, featuring DJ Efsharp.

Building on the success of last year’s murder mystery dinner, organizer Debbie Hill said Station on the Green is excited to welcome back the Niagara on the Lake based troupe, this time for a dance party.

Johnston says one thing is for sure, something will go wrong.

After the murder is committed a detective will take over and lead party-goers through a comedic whodunit.

“Something is amiss during the evening and it will be up to the people to discover who really did the dastardly deed,” he said.

Johnston, who has executed more than 7,000 murder mysteries in his 43-year career since he performed in the first mystery held in North America, said an original script has been prepared for the Oct. 28 event in Creemore to celebrate the spirit of Halloween.

Guests are encouraged to dress in any kind of costume and be prepared for anything. There will be a prize for the best costume.

The murder mystery will be supported by Efsharp, also known as Samuel Peter Fleming, founder of Evolved Entertainment, who is said to have filled dancefloors at more than 2,000 events across six countries since 1994. Requests are being accepted in advance via the Station on the Green Facebook page.

Chez Michel will be selling handheld food during the event, and there will be a cash bar (19+ event).

Tickets cost $40 and are available at www.smallhallsfestival.ca. Doors open at 7 p.m.

On the heels of three sold out-out headliner events this weekend in Singhampton and Nottawa, the Small Halls Festival continues Sunday with the High Speed Chicken Races at Duntroon Hall on Saturday, Oct. 15. The annual “running of the chickens” is described as a lively and entertaining display of poultry in motion. Admission is free.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive hungry and take advantage of the Pancake and Sausage Breakfast hosted by the Nottawa Firefighters Association before the chicken races at noon. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $10 per person for pancakes and a beverage, add $5 for sausage.

A similar breakfast will be hosted by the Stayner Firefighters Association at the Stayner arena. The breakfast is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. to accommodate participants in the Back Roads Rally, open to ATVs, classic cars and motorcycles.

Participants of the Back Roads Rally will visit halls in Singhampton, Brentwood and Stayner. Cars and motorcycles will also visit Creemore’s Station on the Green and ATVs will have a stop at Giffen’s Country Market.

Participants will earn playing cards by taking part in unique challenges representative of each hall, with the hopes of getting a winning hand. Tickets cost $32.

Event details and tickets are available at www.smallhallsfestival.ca.
