August 17, 1934- November 1, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable man and local historian, Malcolm “John” Osburn McKee. He passed away peacefully at his home on the family farm surrounded by loved ones.

John was born and raised and spent the entirety of his 89 years in the village of Nottawa. He was the 5th generation to carry on the McKee Family farm. John as a loving husband and a friend for 69 years to Frances, and father to Sam (Lee) and Tim (Jill). Alongside his brothers, John helped build a thriving business, McKee Tire, that has endured for more than 68 years.

But beyond his professional achievements, John considered his most cherished accomplishment to be his role as a grandfather. He often declared that he was put on this earth to be a grandfather. He showered his 4 grandchildren, Krista (Adam), Jordan (Kevin), Brendan & Carly, with love and affection. He adored his four great-grandchildren Malcolm, Scottie, Finn & Grey (who are the 8th generation to cherish the family farm).

John radiated a special warmth that made everyone feel at home in his presence. Strangers quickly became lifelong friends thanks to his welcoming, gentle nature and his captivating stories. His life was a testament to contentment. He desired nothing more than to sit on his front porch in the company of loved ones.

John will be dearly missed by his older brother Bob (Isobel), his sister Mary Lyn, his nieces and nephews, and his many friends he made throughout his extraordinary life. He is now reunited with his brother Hugh (Carol).  We mourn his loss, and we remember and celebrate a life well-lived.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sohail Gandhi and Dr. Marius Van Der Merwe for their care.

A private service will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home with interment at Christ Church Batteaux Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital MRI fund in John’s memory.  Friends may visit John’s online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
