Before we get too excited about the generosity of the current provincial government as it bequeaths our tax dollars back into our communities… (Simcoe- Grey receiving over $16M to support infrastructure The Creemore Echo, Dec. 15, page 1) let’s look at what this money actually buys.

Four hundred million dollars is to be distributed among 425 separate municipalities.

To place that in perspective, a recent project to reconstruct one intersection along Pretty River Road and Reid’s Hill cost $750,000.

Simply put, these dollars will not go far.

A more practical approach might be that each municipality presents project estimates that are necessary and requests funding for these infrastructure items.

That way the many municipal councils won’t be frustrated when they realize that few of their needed works can be completed.
