Their Amazing Race Canada experience has come to an end, but Julia Viola and Olivia Curto could not be more proud of their effort.
The Clearview couple was eliminated this week in Episode 6 of the show after a series of challenges set in the Guelph and Wellington County area.
Viola says it was thrilling to compete alongside her partner.
“We really got out of our comfort zone tackling the challenges and achieving together,” she said. “We created some incredible memories that we will cherish forever.”
The haunted house challenge in Episode 1 was especially tough for Curto, who suffers from claustrophobia.
For Viola, the biggest test was the grain bin in Episode 5.
“It was mentally and physically exhausting,” she said. “With all the other challenges you knew what you had to do and there was an end in sight but with that one we didn’t know if we’d ever find the clue. It was really about keeping going and never giving up.”
The Clearview team took the high road and focused on doing their best in each challenge. They did not take advantage of the opportunity to slow down another team by putting them on the “pass board.” Viola says that would have been bad karma.
“In our day-to-day lives we strive to have honesty and respect,” she said. “Sportsmanship is very important to us and we always want to be able to hold our heads high.”
As winners of a previous leg of the race, the couple won a trip to Italy, which Curto describes as their dream honeymoon. The trip comes with $10,000 spending money which, according to Viola, will buy a lot of gelato.
There are six teams still in the race with four episodes to go.
Curto is hopeful that one of the all female teams will triumph when the winner is revealed in late September.
“We’re all about female empowerment,” she said. “We like to encourage strong, positive female representation.”
