MAYNARD, Edward Kenneth – We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Ed Maynard on August 31, 2024, at Ottawa Hospital. He was 80 years old. Ed leaves behind a loving family: his daughter Sue Lawley-Maynard (Krista), his son Ken Maynard, and his cherished grandchildren Adam, Madylan, and Aidin (Madison). He is also survived by his brother Michael Maynard (Linda), his sisters Janice Trotter and Bette Roberts, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly. The eldest of his siblings, Ed was predeceased by his devoted parents, Stanley and Verna Maynard (née Kennett), his brother Brian Maynard (Nancy), his sister Diane Moorhouse (Don), his former spouse Joan Maynard (née Park), and his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Barbara Maynard (née Stieh). Born on June 5, 1944, in Toronto, ON, Ed spent his formative years in the small Ontario town of Emsdale. His journey took him across the province, including a long period in Creemore where he built a home and raised his family. Ed pursued higher education at Teacher’s College in North Bay and dedicated his career to education. Known for his enthusiasm for outdoor learning, Ed later transitioned to a role as a librarian/resource teacher. His sense of humor and quiet demeanor enriched the lives of students at Byng Public School in Stayner, Oxbow Park in Wasaga Beach, and New Lowell Central Public School in New Lowell, where he continued to inspire young minds until his retirement in 1998. Ed also took great joy in leading student trips to Camp Tawingo, a highlight of his career. In his personal life, Ed was an avid collector of stamps, vintage postcards, and coins, cultivating a deep appreciation for history and artistry. He was a well-respected and valued member of the collector community, where his enthusiasm and knowledge were widely admired. Ed will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus for their compassionate care. We are also grateful to the friends, extended family and caregivers who supported Ed in his later years and through his many health issues, particularly Margaret, Alison, Sarah, Hannah, Louise, and Judith. Ed’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were touched by his kindness and spirit. He will be deeply missed. There will be no service at this time.
